Poor Local Derby Form Continues...

Sunninghill FC's poor local derby form continued again last night against AFC Sunninghill in the Parish Cup semi final held at south ascot where upon arrival at the ground the pitch did not look like it had been cut since the end of last season, making passing impossible and not the best game for the neutral, add to this the heavy rain and the gloomy light not the most enjoyable game of the season.

As in the last meeting between the 2 sides we started the better team pinning AFC Sunninghill and for the whole of the first 20 minutes they did not manage to get out of their half, but for all of the pressure Pearson was rarely tested in the home goal, due to a combination of a poor final pass, or some great last ditch defending from the home sides central defenders Tom Donaldson and Steve Ormerod.

We looked more dangerous from set pieces and long throws with new signing Jon Keough and the returning Paul McDowell venturing forward but without the goal it was still level as Afc began to play themselves into the game and after a diagonal ball over the top Leverton managed to use his strength to get past Zutshi and apply a clinical finish to put the home side 1-0 up with their first attack. This visibly lifted them and Joslin started to see a lot of the ball on the right, causing a lot of problems to the visitors backline and it was from his run on the left that Zutshi handled just inside the area and Joslin stepped up to send Reagan the wrong way fromt the spot, and after the dominance of the first 20 minutes it was surprising that 10 minutes later we found ourselves 2-0 down.

Martin Riding was trying to get his side back into the game with some driving runs down the left and from one of these was clearly upended from behind in the area but for some reason referee John Ward decided it was not a penalty kick.

Just before the break it was 2-1 when a Clinton Harcup long thrown was flicked on by Bennett and Barron was on hand to slot home the loose ball.

Charlie Harcup replaced Jai Zutshi at right back as the visitors tried to get back into the game, and after a short half time team talk were back out after 5 mins and started well forcing the home side back now attacking the better half of the pitch, and got a deserved equaliser on 65 mins when Barron clipped a delightful ball into the path of Bennett to take down and finish past Pearson from 12 yards, now at 2-2 Sunninghill were in the ascendency and it was against the run of play that the home side went 3-2 up after 70 mins when a speculative effort from Josling that was hit well caught Reagan napping as the ball nestled in the far corner.

As we looked to find another equaliser the home side were happy to sit back and hit us on the break which with the pace of Joslin up front was always a danger, the home side had a few players down for treatment which ran the clock down with no chance of this added on due to the poor light, and with 2 minutes remaining the game was over when Leverton fall over the ball in the area but managed to keep control swinging a left boot at it, with the ball striking the near post and falling perfectly for Joslin 6 yards out with an open goal to duly complete his hat trick.

And so we suffered a second consecutive defeat to our local rivals, and will need some positive displays before the season starts if we are to achieve the same success as last season.
